Spring 2013
2/25/2013Hello all Terry Scholars! We're back!
We have finally solved our website problems! We will be posting more frequently about all of the amazing events here at UH.
To formally announce our officers for this year: Pamela Ayala-President, Natalie Harms- Vice President, Ruth Tadesse-Treasurer, Kim Mai Le-Community Service, Manuel Navarro-Historian, and Shelley Temple- Secretary. We are all here to help you!
CONGRATULATIONS to all of the incoming freshman who have been selected for Terry Scholar interviews! We wish you luck during the interview process! Our e-mail is still the same, uh.officers@terryscholars.org, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Officer Retreat 2011
1/17/2011This past weekend, all six of our officers traveled over to Texas State in San Marcos, TX to join officers from the student organizations of the six other schools that benefit from having Terry Scholars on their campus. Once there, we met some new faces and some returning faces. We had some fun and saw the town, but most importantly, we learned from each other.
Once we all had met and loosened up, we sat down to discuss our individual student organizations. We showed off what we thought we were doing well, revealed where we were slacking and disclosed some ideas that we have in the works. From each one of the schools, even the newest school, University of North Texas, we learned something new and exciting.
Soon after, we discussed what our State-wide fundraiser and community service project would be. After much debate and weighing options, we decided that we would split the fundraiser between the two causes that had been brought up. And of the four service projects proposed, the popular vote revealed that we would be cleaning beaches come April.
Over all, the Officer Retreat was a success. We had lots of fun and got a lot done. I want to thank the Terry officers from Texas State for putting it all together and all the officers that attended. I look forward to next year’s retreat at UTSA.
UH-Hosted Officer Retreat a Success!
1/17/2010This weekend, all of the student organizations from each Terry school sent their officers to Houston to meet up with our UH Officers. We played, we ate and we got organized.
The main reason that we have an officer retreat is so that we can learn from our successes and improve our organizations as well as to plan the annual Terry Statewide Service Project. But not only did we accomplish these things, we made a few friends and had a ton of fun.
There will be more on what we accomplished during the retreat at the UH Terry General Meeting on Friday, January 29th at 3 pm.
April 09 Meeting
4/24/2009The meeting was riddled with heartfelt Terry Scholar Officer 2009-2010 speeches that reminded us of how blessed we really are to be Terry Scholars.
John showed off the photo mosaic Terry Gift in all of its glory. Afterwards, most everyone trekked over to the fields behind the REC center for the 2nd Annual Terry Field Day where we paired up and teamed up tossing eggs at each other!
March 09 Meeting
3/27/2009We dove right into Terry Scholar officer for 2009-2010 nominations! Many nominations were voiced and the nomination period remains open until next Friday (April 3rd) @ 5pm. Send the officers an email with your nomination! Franco will contact you if you are nominated by Thursday.
From the looks of it, in Recyclemania, we had ~15 large bags of recyclables (plastic bottles / cans / mixed paper). I think we definitely recycled the most plastic bottles!!! A big thank you to everyone who recycled and helped transport the bags.
Read the Agenda minutes to explore the many fundraising, socials, & volunteer activities we have planned! Our last meeting is April 24th @ 1pm. We will vote for next year's officers. Right after the meeting, Terry Field Day by the REC...
Remember, the Winedale Picnic, Sunday, April 26th is a MANDATORY, kick-awesome event with all of the Terry Scholar schools and Terry Foundation staff!

February 09 Meeting
2/27/2009We had a tasty fruity fruity meeting today which will be followed by more insanity tonight at Laser Quest. Speaking of laser tag, we are meeting in the Taub RHE parking lot (if you need a ride/can give a ride) @ 7pm to travel to Laser Quest (Directions: http://tr.im/gEz0). Bring $15 CASH for playing two laser tag games! Laser Quest told us to have just one person collect the money & pay there. Usually it is a good idea to wear dark clothing so that you don't shimmer in the black lights!
We as Terry Scholars will be competing with other groups on campus in RecycleMania. A GREAT WAY to show UH we care about the environment in our community! Those of us on campus or consume plastics, aluminum cans, and paper (newspapers, human sit drafts...) on campus let's go crazy go nuts about recycling. Check out the previous emails.
Houston IKE Relief, (first weekend of spring break) Fri-Sun. March 13th-15th. Sign-up online!
T-SHIRTS: The "Mr. Terry is my Homeboy" t-shirts are here on campus. Remember this is a fundraiser $10/shirt for the State Terry Family in Need.
John Sallans still needs your pictures of Terry Scholars &/or Terry events to aid in the compilation of our Terry Scholar Gift. Next meeting, March 27th we will be having an 2009-2010 Officer Nominations.

January 09 Meeting
2/3/2009Thank you to all who came out to the meeting yesterday! We had a productive and informative meeting topped off with delicious ice cream. The agenda was chalked (or maybe just typed) full of important dates for community service and social events. Terry Game Night, Terryoke, Houston Food Bank, Nehemiah Center, Ike Relief, "Mr. Terry is my Homeboy" Tshirts, and much more! Check the attached Jan. 23rd 2009 agenda.
Have an awesome spring semester!
December General Meeting
1/18/2009The last meeting of the year has come and gone with many splendid memories. Our meeting began at 6pm a bit later than our usual 1pm meetings. However, this was no normal meeting. It was the night of the Terry RamaChanuKwanzMas Fiesta! Efficiently covering the agenda, we moved on to play games like the classic Heads-up-7-up and the paper scrap intensive Telephone Pictionary waiting for the food to arrive. Splendid Tex-Mex food was catered and our own Terry Scholars displayed their own dessert creations!
Once all in the house had their share, we settled down for our traditional White Elephant Gift Exchange! Large, small, round, and fish-shaped presents abounded in the middle of a huge circle of satisfied, yet eager UH Terry Scholars. Tears of joy and anger sprang up throughout the exchange as scholars chose or stole presents and schemed with others about strategies.
A wonderful blast to start out the Holidays! Have a splendid New Years!
