Who we are!

TF
The Terry Scholars at the University of Houston are a close-knit community of students who are motivated to not only succeed academically but to contribute to the betterment of our community as a whole. The current 58 Scholars participate in numerous service projects in the greater Houston area. We strive to be leaders in our school and community because of the great opportunity afforded to us. Outside of school we believe strongly in creating a safety net and often get together to fellowship and just have fun!

This past weekend, all six of our officers traveled over to Texas State in San Marcos, TX to join officers from the student organizations of the six other schools that benefit from having Terry Scholars on their campus. Once there, we met some new faces and some returning faces. We had some fun and saw the town, but most importantly, we learned from each other.

Once we all had met and loosened up, we sat down to discuss our individual student organizations. We showed off what we thought we were doing well, revealed where we were slacking and disclosed some ideas that we have in the works. From each one of the schools, even the newest school, University of North Texas, we learned something new and exciting.

Soon after, we discussed what our State-wide fundraiser and community service project would be. After much debate and weighing options, we decided that we would split the fundraiser between the two causes that had been brought up. And of the four service projects proposed, the popular vote revealed that we would be cleaning beaches come April.

Over all, the Officer Retreat was a success. We had lots of fun and got a lot done. I want to thank the Terry officers from Texas State for putting it all together and all the officers that attended. I look forward to next year’s retreat at UTSA.
